Watlington pairsh is a substantial village lying in the
west of Norfolk on the flood plain of the River Great Ouse. South of King's
Lynn midway to Downham Market and just west of the A10 road. The village
is in a low-lying area just 7 metres above sea-level but protected from
flooding by the raised banks of the Ouse. The centre of the village is
a star-fish shaped agglomeration of five lanes centred on the village
centre and contrained to the north by the grounds of Watlington Hall.
With a station on the King's Lynn to Cambridge line the village is popular
as a commuter settlement. |

The two register books which comprise this transcript are filmed on Microfilm MF574 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. This filming is good with contrasty and clear images. As such this was a relatively straight-forward transcript to make. The usual caveat about interpretation of clerics hand-writing applies. It is to be hoped few errors will have crept in to its compilation. |
