1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Watton St Mary |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Watton lies in central Norfolk, Watton is
a small market town west of Norwich, South-east of Swaffham and North-east
of Thetford with its centre lying at and to the west of the junction of
the east-west B1108 and the north-south A1075. The town has grown remarkably
during the 20th century as a result of military bases in the area, this
growth has largely fallen away recently leaving a sad suburb to the east
of the centre along the Norwich road. To the west of the crossroads the
centre of Watton is a prosperous collection of shops, businesses and pubs,
a thriving town. |

Three register books cover the period of the project, two standard 800 entry books are completely included whilst the last few entries come from a book which is only partially used having been closed in 1900. The register are filmed on Microfiche 9 through to 13 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office and from which this transcript was prepared. The fiche are rather elderly and poorly filmed, many entries are extremely faint and in places the fiche were bordering on the unreadable. As a consequence much reference was made to the parallel surviving Bishop's Transcripts to provide a legible entry. With luck most entries can be discerned from one source or the other and it is to be hoped that few misreads have crept into the production of this transcript. |
