1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Wickmere St Andrew |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Wickmere lies in northeastern Norfolk about
5 miles north of the market town of Aylsham. Wickmere sits in lanes about
3 miles west of the A140 (Norwich to Cromer) road. Wickmere is not a large
village, most properties lie around an oblong of tiny lanes but all services
have left the village nowadays. The area is largely intensively arable,
Wickmere sits on a very level tract of land with few contours other than
to its east where the shallow valley of the Scarrow Beck heads south to
join the Bure. Many of the fields are large and crops such as cereals,
sugar-beet and oilseed dominate the landscape. Wickmere parish was typically
small at just 1,000 acres, parishes in the area being typically small
and reflecting denser populations in mediaeval tomes. Today Wickmere is
something of a quiet backwater an attraction for our times. |

A single standard 800-entry register covers the period of this transcript and runs on to complete in 1889. This register is filmed on Microfilm MF1841 in the collection of Norfolk Record Office which was used to prepare this transcript. This film is very new having been completed in 2017 and benefits from the improved techniques available today. The images are clean and crisp and more than make up for the occasional poor handwriting making for a straightforward piece to prepare. |
