1813 to 1880 Baptism Project Wormegay St Michael |
Baptisms 1813 to 1880
The parish of Wormegay lies in western Norfolk,
south-east of the port of King's Lynn and set a mile or so to
the east of the A10 and A134 junction. Most of the village sits
on a little knoll just above the flood plain of the River Nar
which runs to the north. The village is the site of a Norman
motte and bailey fortification which clearly took advantage of
the raised ground. The village is compact but has few amenities
serving the populace these days. |

The main register comprising this
transcript is a relatively recent deposit, filmed in excellent
quality on Microfilm MF1687 in the collection of the Norfolk
Record Office. This is a brilliant production with sharp and
contrasting images which make reading the entries so easy on the
eyes. The second register which forms the last 4 years of the data
has yet to be deposited and remains with the church. As a
consequence the deposited Bishop's Transcripts were used to
complete the full date coverage. The BTs were not of the quality of the main register but by then the names in the parish were rather familiar and therefore relatively easy to deduce. On this occasion it is hoped that few errors which might occur are solely due to mis-reads of the handwriting and, of course, the inevitable typographic errors. |
