The ParishThe parish of Llanbeulan lies in western Anglesey about 6 miles west of the market town of Llangefni. Modern day Llanbeulan is tiny, not even marked as such on modern Ordnance survey maps. Llanbeulan is located just a half miles south of the busy A55 Anglesey Expressway and roughly a mile southwest of the large village of Gwalchmai. The parish contains no definitive settlement just a scatter of farms and cottages across a wide area of farming land. Llanbeulan would have predominantly been a farming community, mixed pastoral and arable farming would have been supplemented by small local quarrying for building stone. Many small streams drain the parish southwestwards to reach the Irish Sea coast at Rhosneigr. Llanbeulan is sited at around 30 metres above the sea in gently rolling countryside, local heights rise to just over 70 metres to the west of Gwalchmai. Llanbeulan parish was one of the larger in extent on the island, it covered just over 2,700 acres and would have supported a population of around 300 parishioners, a lot fewer occupy the parish today. Like most of Wales Llanbeulan is not mentioned in Domesday Book which did not cover this area. |
