The ParishThe parish of Cuby with Tregony lies in southern Cornwall roughly 6 miles east of the city of Truro. Cuby with Tregony sits on an mostly east of the A3078 road which connects Probus with St Mawes and stands at the head of one of the many inlets of the ria that forms the ria of the River Fal. Whilst Cuby is a tiny place, little more than an extension, Tregony is a mid-sized village with a small presence on the A3078 but with most of the village lying to its northeast along the subsidiary B3287 road, the village rises steadily up the slopes of the Fal's valley. Despite the westerly location Tregony's economy is described in early gazetteers as largely arable farming. Today, like much of Cornwall, Tregony has a tourism element to its portfolio, albeit its inland location makes it less subject to the second home phenomenon, the Fal being a prime setting for sailing enthusiasts. The Fal drais the parish southwestwards quickly forming a deeply incised narrow channel of the sea which merges into Carrick Roads and finally the English Channel. Cuby with Tregony is sited at between 10 and 70 metres above the sea as it climbs the valley sides, land reaches around 100 metres soon after and is a general height for much of the area, a dissected plateau. Cornish parishes are often quite extensive, Cuby with Tregony was not one of those covering just 2,000 acres and supporting a population of close to 1,100 parishioners. Only Tregony was recorded in Domesday Book as a holding of Count Robert of Mortain, its assets of just 2 ploughs backed by pastures and woodlands reveal a rather small rural manor at that time. |

Standard preprinted and self-numbered Marriage register
with 3 entries per page |
Grade 5 Register - the condition of this register is such
that the transcript carries a "health warning" as to the
likelihood of being substantially incorrect |
The register is in a poor condition, partially destroyed
with loss of the base of each folio and also bleed-through of
backing entries. Much reference to BTs and Phillemore's transcript
are required to make this anything like accurate. |
| 2 | 29th September 1765 -8th November 1812 | Cornwall Record Office - Reference - P44/1/7 | Standard preprinted and self-numbered combined Banns & Marriage register with 4 entries per page | Grade 4 Register - there are notable quality issues with this
register which may have resulted in many misreads |
Poor handwriting can be found throughout this register which
raises the probability of a few misreads |
| 3 | 29th May 1813 - 10th June 1837 | Cornwall Record Office - Reference - P44/1/8 | Standard Rose style preprinted and prenumbered Marriage register | Grade 4 Register - there are notable quality issues with this
register which may have resulted in many misreads |
Both poor handwriting and fading in places conspire to make for a
rather tricky read and a likelihood of some misreads |
