The ParishThe parish of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog lies in the southern portion of Denbighshire, indeed it forms part of the border with neighbouring Merioneth. Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog is a mountain settlement about 9 miles west of the Shropshire market town of Oswestry. Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog sits at the end of the B4500 road that runs into the Berwyn Mountains from Chirk. The village is tightly crammed into the valley of the Afon Ceiriog with most of the settlement on either bank and close to the crossing point. This is an upland community and life would have revolved around the annual cycle of the sheep farming which dominates the area and makes use of the sparse resources of the mountains. The Afon Ceiriog is flowing eastwards to meet the Dee to the east of Chirk from where it heads to the Irish Sea through Chester. Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog is sited at 270 metres above sea level but land rises steeply to the west to reach local heights at Moel Sych (827 metres) on the Berwyns. As an upland parish Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog was large, covering over 10,000 acres (much of which was best described as rough moorland) it supported a population of just over 300 parishioners. In common with most of Wales there is no mention of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog in Domesday Book which did not cover this area. |

2 | 26th December 1769 - 12th July 1812 | Denbighshire Archives - Reference PD/41/1/3 | Plain unruled book, a further composite register in contravention of Hardwicke's segregation requirements | Grade 1 Register - Few issues noted and a low likelihood of misreads | None |
3 | 8th February 1813 - 2nd July 1822 | Library of Wales | Bishop's Transcripts on loose leaf folios | Grade 3 Register - there are sufficient quality issues with this register to indicate that some misreads will occur albeit few in number | The first few pages of the Rose Marriage register have been lost, some of the entries have been retrieved from the BTs but there are certainly gaps leading to omissions |
4 | 15th November 1824 - 9th May 1837 | Denbighshire Archives - Reference PD/41/1/4 | Standard Rose style preprinted and prenumbered Marriage register | Grade 1 Register - Few issues noted and a low likelihood of misreads | None |
