The ParishThe parish of East Bilney lies almost centrally within Norfolk being located about 5 miles north of the market town of East Dereham. East Bilney is a small and scattered settlement which sits on, and east of, the B1146 road which connects East Dereham with Fakenham. East Bilney has a small presence on the B1146 but mostly consists of a scatter of farms and cottages across the parish. East Bilney was, and largely still is, a farming parish with much of the ecreage set to arable farming. East BIlney is drained eastwards by the Black Water which runs the short distance to join the River Wensum, thence through the city of Norwich, joining the Yare and reaching the North Sea through the port of Great Yarmouth. East Bilney is sited at around 50 metres above the sea in very gentle terrain, other than in the river valley local heights remain at this height or barely rise a further 10 metres. East Bilney was a tiny parish in a county where parishes are generally small it was still one of the smallest rural parishes, covering just under 500 acres it would have supported just 200 parishioners. East Bilney is not specifically mentioned in Domesday Book. |
