The ParishAdstone is a small chapelry of the wider parish of Canons Ashby and lies in southwestern Northamptonshire about 7 miles northwest of the market town of Towcester. Adstone lies in an area of the county almost completely avoided by major roads, the closest numbered road to Adstone being the A5 which passes through Towcester, itself. A small and compact crossroads settlement Adstone would have, and still is, a farming community with arable chief amongst the mix, some employment was also available quarrying the local sandstone for building materials. Adstone is drained southeastwards by a small tributary of the River Towe which is joined near Towcester, thence to the Great Ouse north of Northampton and to the North Sea through The Fens to The Wash. Adstone is sited at around 160 metres above the sea on a relatively high plateau forming much of this part of the county, local heights rise a further 25 metres or so within a couple of miles. The area of the chapelry was comparable to parishes in this area, covering 1,400 acres it would have supported around 200 parishioners, as a chapelry many parishioners would have married in the mother church at Canons Ashby. In Domesday times the majority of Adstone was held personally by King William, collectively it could offer 24 ploughs, woodland and 2 mills making it a middling sort of place at that time. |

1 | 6th May 1759 - 19th October 1835 | Northamptonshire Archives - Reference - 005P/01 | Plain, unruled book, a continuation of the extant composite register in contravention of both Hardwicke's & Rose's segregation & wording requirements | Grade 3 Register - there are sufficient quality issues with this register to indicate that some misreads will occur albeit few in number | Batches of marriages are scattered through the baptisms and burials making it tricky to spot every instance, as a result there is a possibility of accidental omission, fading also makes it a difficult read and there is a possibility too of misread |
