The ParishThe
parish of Llandilo lies in eastern Pembrokeshire roughly 11
miles north of the market town of Narberth. Llandilo is located
roughly 2 miles east of the B4313 road which connects Narberth
through to the port of Fishguard. Llandilo has always been a
tiny place, a dispersed settlement with only a hamlet marking
its small village. Llandilo sits at the foot of the Preseli
mountains and the parish was elongated on a north to south axis
taking in a selection of the land forms available in the area.
In consequence the economy was surprisingly varied, arable
farming in the lower areas, pastoral farming on higher ground
and extractive industry quarrying the local slate for building
stone. Llandilo is drained southwards by a small tributary of
the Eastern Cleddau which heads into the Irish Sea through the
port of Pembroke. Llandilo is sited at around 150 metres above
the sea in hill country which rises onto the nearby Preseli's
reaching 467 metres on nearby Foel Feddau. Llandilo parish was
one of the smallest in the area, covering only 300 acres it
would have supported a population of around 100 parishioners.
Like most of Wales Llandilo is not mentioned in Domesday Book
which did not cover this area. |

No registers survive for this period, there are also no
surviving BTs to cover that omission. If there were marriages in
this period their details have been lost to history. |
