Baptisms 1813 to 1880
Hindolveston, often pronounced Hilderston, is a substantial parish located between Fakenham and Aylsham. Interestingly it is a curiosity in being a "peculiar", of the Dean & Chapter of Norwich. This doesn't affect its legal status merely the location of its pre-1858 wills. St George's church has a chequered history. The present building was erected in the 1930s to replace a wooden building. This was in existence because in or around 1890 the tower of the original St George's fell into the nave. Nowadays it's difficult to imagine what the original building may have looked like - the only remnants are part of the ivy-clad tower and a few piles of masonry. |

These records were transcribed from microfilm MF981 of the Norfolk collection. They were superbly clear and the initial handwriting by the Vicar John Lloyd perfectly legible and easy to read. His successor Arthur Gifford Durnford was equally legible making this a joy to transcribe. |
